Draft 2

Personal Narrative

It was summer break of my sophomore year going to junior year. I was with my friends and we had nothing to do, so we went to the mall. After walking around the mall for a couple hours we were bored so we decided to go to one last store, Dillards. After walking around the whole 2-story store we headed to the Polo Ralph Lauren clothing section which was the brand I liked and wore the most; one of my favorite clothing brands to this day. After looking at the selection for a good while one of my friends had told me that they would shoplift from this store since there’s never anyone working in this section. They also said that it’s super easy because the doors to leave is only a couple feet away from this section. The other friend I was with didn’t want to not because he knew it was wrong but he had already stole something from a different store.

After I had been looking at what I wanted I stuck with 2 regular Polo t-shirts. I had told my friends to get away from me to make it less suspicious. So after a couple minutes went by and no worker was to be seen I grabbed the shirts and put them in my pants. My friends saw me from a distance and after I gave them the signal to leave they walked out the door first. I’m walking towards the door and after I turn the corner to walk to my friends car a big built man with black sunglasses slammed me against the wall and told me, “Let’s go back inside.” I was super confused but as he grabbed me by my shirt with a death grip and took me inside it all became obvious; he was a secret shopper and security for the store. As we walked into the security room my friends were nowhere to be found and I thought to myself that I was so screwed. There were 2 security officials in the room and they began questioning me. I began to lie because I didn’t want them to know the real me. They snatched my phone from my hand were reading the notifications. That kind of ticked me off because they have no authority to do that so my attitude changed entirely.

I figured my friends were texting in the groupchat and worried about  because my phone was blowing up with so many text and call notifications. They began to ask me who was in the groupchat and who I had come to the mall with. I just kept my mouth shut. They called in the mall officer and he began to ask for my information, I answered his questions because he actually had the authority to ask me questions. And after giving him all my information he handcuffed me and took me to the nearest precinct where I had to wait for my mother to pick me up. The worst part was that I had to call her which made me feel 10x worse. The whole time I was in the holding cell I was just thinking, “What are my parents gonna do?” 45 minutes go by and my mom arrives to pick me up where the officials are explaining to her what had happened and what is going to happen since I had gotten arrested. I had disappointed her a lot to the point where she started crying. After the officers had given her the paperwork we were walking out to her car. As we were a couple feet away from the car my mom asks for my phone where she then puts it behind the wheel and runs it over.

The car ride home felt so long and since I was in big trouble I had to think of something to do to keep myself busy during the rest of summer. My mom was scolding me the whole ride home and I don’t blame her. If I could redo that day I definitely would. I felt so bad not even because my mom would have to pay for the costs but I had let her down; that was the worst feeling ever.
